Lakeside Family Farm partnerships with Food Pantries reach more Maine people

June 19, 2016

Lakeside Family Farm is proud to be a long-timer participant in Good Shepherd Food Bank‘s Mainers Feeding Mainers program. This year, as we launch our Work and SchoolPlace FarmShares, Lakeside Family Farm is also participating with the Maine Farmland Trust as part of the USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) grants for SNAP-eligible Mainers. This is a federal government grant program that makes it possible for those using Food Stamps to get a share of vegetables for just under half the usual price. The SNAP-shares are available at all of our drop sites and also will be available every other week at selected Food Pantries in Brewer, Corinth, and Augusta/Manchester and at selected schools sites from the Portland-based Maine Locker Project. All of these extraordinarily-committed Maine groups share the common mission of providing more nutritious food to more Maine people in need. Lakeside’s own philosophy, More Maine Food for More Maine People,  offers a great match. We are exceptionally pleased to be involved in these partnerships.LFF_.5bushelbox_7.jpg
