Peas growing up to be on your plates the 4th of July!

The cold “Arctic spring” appears to be over and peas are up! The planting schedule here is, as you might imagine, complex and long; most everything is planted sequentially for continuing harvest all season, though of course some things, with long growing needs are planted now and won’t come to harvest until late fall–think parsnips or Brussels sprouts. Out my window I see the Newport crew, but planting also continues on land we are using in Somerset and Aroostook County. Somerset because there is good carrot interval land there. Aroostook offers a chance to realize a plan that’s been long in the making to form a growing partnership in Maine’s largest agricultural county. S.
